Mercs shines at Golden Oar

Published Mon 02 Nov 2026

The Golden Oar Regatta is novel regatta, the brain child of Canberra rowers John and Jeanette Gasson. They have not only expanded the design of regattas, but built a community rowing club to widen the availability of rowing to all school children and adults in the ACT. They are innovators as well as generous people.

One of the innovations for this regatta is great prize money which has attracted many international entries. It is also a fun regatta.

Mercantile topped the club mewdal tally. Great work all. The following mentions some of our members great rowing.

Then on Sunday the Mercantile quad of Emmie Frederico, Austin Reinehr, Dom Frederico and Paige Barr, coached by Scott Rowe got another bronze in the Open mixed quad.

Then Suzanna Lutze teamed up with Sam Stunnell from Adelaide to win the Mixed PR3 double scull.
