Members in National Teams

Published Mon 04 Mar 2024

Congratulations to the following members selected into the Olympic/Paralympic and Under 23 teams:

Women's Pair - Jessica Morriosn OAM - this is the women's priority boat and Jess teams up again with Annabelle McIntyre.

Men's Eight - Angus Widdicombe - this is men's priority boat and it is currently stroked by Gus. Australia has never won an Olympic eight with our best result being silver at Mexico with club member David Douglas in the four seat. It is a big call to put the best resources into this boat which will be won or lost by a whisker, but the boat is super fast. Three members of the Olympic Champion Four from Tokyo have been put into the eight to bolster it's chances of success.

Women's eight and four squad - Paige Barr, Katrina Werry and Hayley Verbunt. Both the the women's four and eight performed with distinction last season at the World Cups and World Championships. Correctly, we have great expectations for these crews. It will be interesting to see how they will be selected by coach John Keogh.

Jack Robertson and Fergus Hamilton have been selected into a quality men's four. It will be good crew and a medal prospect.

Al Viney again has been selected in the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four squad which is a great achievement after an injury plagued, and very interrupted season.

In the under 23 teams, Austin Reinehr was not unexpectedly selected in a top notch four and Dom Frederico in the double scull. Dom had a poor start to trials but won every seat race to place himself well in a fast crew.

Congratulations to all these members.
